If I had to pick one track that best summed up Pokémon Colosseum, it’d probably be this one: the theme that plays during your visits to Pyrite Town, one of the most plot-important locations in the game. The people behind Pokémon Colosseum tried to make a title that was more story-driven and more mature and while we can debate whether it succeeded or not, I think we can all agree this theme is pretty dang good.
It feels really out of place for a Pokémon game due to its jazzy beat, use of horns and finger-snapping – it sounds almost seedy, but it perfectly fits the location. Pyrite Town, to borrow a phrase, is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Most of the people you meet are roaming thugs and gangsters, as well as members of criminal organisation Cipher. The moment you step into town and you hear this track, you already know what kind of place this is. It’s suitably atmospheric and it’s one of the most memorable tracks in this mixed bag of a game.
